As part of Facebook's first quarterly report, Mark Zuckerberg also released current user numbers for Instagram Stories.
Every 2 Instagram users consume Stories
Within six months, Instagram Stories user numbers have increased by 100 million People. In January 2019, the figure will be 500 million People.
Instagram's overall user numbers have not been re-communicated and remain at 1 billion People. The development of Stories goes so far that every second Instagram user also consumes Stories.
The development also confirms that Stories are growing faster than the Instagram feed, or overall usage. But that is no great surprise. I assume that we will see an equal distribution in the near future. Say every Instagram user will also use Stories. That's what it boils down to, and that's what Facebook will be aiming for.
Facebook is also growing again
While Instagram Stories grew by 100 million Users grew in six months, Facebook's daily active users in January 2019 are back at the same level as a year ago. Of course, one cannot directly compare growth rates. For Facebook, however, things are looking better in Europe. In the last two quarterly reports, DAUs in Europe have fallen and are now rising again.
Total use 2.7 billion People's so-called family of apps from Facebook. In addition to WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram, of course. Almost even more exciting is the daily use, which at 2 billion People.
An interesting statistic, which also shows the overlap in usage. Facebook has more than 1.5 billion daily users worldwide. Stories coming in at 500 million People.
Criticism of Facebook has no effect on Instagram
Despite the criticism of Facebook, the quarterly figures are convincing. The plan to establish Stories as a new ad format is also working. 2 million Advertisers now place ads in Stories.
More people are using Stories and more companies are placing ads in Stories. So everything is going according to plan and Instagram is not slowed down by the mistakes and problems of Facebook.
So, in this area at least, we can say that Mark Zuckerberg and his team did everything right. But there are a few other building sites.
