Nobody cares about the football result of five days ago. On Instagram and Facebook, this means some posts in the News Feed that have not yet been displayed but have lost their information content due to their age. In response, the Instagram feed will change and a new Niemand interessiert sich für das Fußballergebnis von vor fünf Tagen. New Posts Button was introduced.
More current content in the Instagram feed
When selecting content for the feed, Instagram has always displayed posts that have not yet been played out in the feed. There is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that Instagram doesn't analyze what's in the photos and videos. This gives the impression that the Instagram feed is out of date and consists of many older posts. Even though this is often a subjective perception, Instagram is stepping in and providing a new feature that allows people to target more up-to-date content in their feed.
We know the situation of Facebook and here the problem has been solved by various adjustments of the News Feed algorithm. The aim of the update is to keep the Instagram feed up-to-date and fresh. As I said, that was actually the case before, but it could happen that they were posts that were a few days old. But they were not outplayed in the feed.
With the update, the automatic refresh of the feed is also a thing of the past. Many of you will rejoice.
The New Posts button was officially announced and confirmed by Instagram. What's also interesting about the announcement is that further changes to the Instagram algorithm are imminent. Similar to Facebook, Instagram will communicate the changes openly. This is to avoid the mistakes that have caused some confusion in the Facebook algorithm in the past.
The update also theoretically increases the possibility that your company posts on Instagram will have more reach. Whether that happens depends on the behaviour of the Instagram community. Ideally, content is consumed in the feed and then, after a certain period of time, the New Posts button is activated and further content is consumed. Instagram certainly wouldn't mind.
Further changes to Instagram algorithm and feed announced
Over the next few months, we'll be sharing more about improvements we're making to feed. Our goal is to be the best place to share and connect with the people and interests that matter most to you.
The feeds of Instagram and Facebook are different. However, it is quite conceivable that some Facebook updates will also be implemented on Instagram. Be it the weighting of videos, dealing with engagement baiting (tagging, following, using hashtags), or of course the integration of Instagram Stories in the feed. The situation on Instagram is similar to the situation on Facebook. The number of users is increasing and so is the number of published content. The frequency of posting on Instagram is often higher than on Facebook.
What will almost certainly not be included is a return to a chronological feed. A chronological feed has only one advantage. It's chronological and that's it. In terms of engagement, a chronological feed is a drawback.
We can't wait to see how the feed will change. What would you like?
